Supervised Visitation Services

At DC Visitation, we provide structured, safe, and professionally supervised visitation services for individuals and families in a variety of situations. Our services are not limited to parent and child visits. We support court ordered supervised visits between family members who require a neutral third party to ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.

Our Approach

Every family dynamic is unique. Our role is to remain neutral, supportive, and focused on the well-being of all participants while ensuring that each visit is carried out with respect and care. We prioritize emotional and physical safety while fostering healthy, structured connection.

Goals of Supervised Visitation

Ensure all participants feel safe and supported Provide structure and accountability during visits Allow individuals to reconnect, rebuild trust, and maintain meaningful relationships Support long term family well-being, stability, and healing.

Safe Exchange Services

In addition to supervised visitation, DC Visitation offers safe exchange services to support families during child custody transitions. A safe exchange allows a neutral third party to facilitate the transfer of a child from one parent or guardian to another in a way that reduces conflict, tension, and potential safety concerns.

What Is a Safe Exchange?

A safe exchange is a monitored handoff of the child between parties at a designated location. This service is ideal for families with:

  • A history of conflict between parties
  • Domestic violence concerns
  • Court-ordered no-contact arrangements
  • Situations where emotional stress impacts the child during transitions

How It Works

  • Exchanges are scheduled in advance and monitored by trained staff
  • Each party arrives at a designated time to avoid direct contact
  • The child is safely transitioned from one party to the other
  • Staff remain present to ensure a calm and neutral environment
  • All exchanges are documented for accountability

Benefits of Safe Exchange

  • Minimizes stress and emotional impact on the child
  • Reduces risk of confrontation between parties
  • Promotes consistency and structure during custody transitions
  • Supports compliance with court orders

Visits Reports

DC Visitation provides detailed documentation for each supervised visit to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with court requirements. Our visit reports are written by trained supervisors and offer an objective summary of the interactions that take place during each session.

Community-Based and Home Visits

DC Visitation offers flexible visitation options to help families reconnect in familiar, comfortable environments, while still ensuring safety, structure, and compliance with court guidelines.

What Are Community-Based Visits?

Community-based visits take place in public locations, such as parks, libraries, family-friendly venues, or in some cases, homes. These visits are designed to provide a more natural and relaxed setting for families while still maintaining professional supervision.

Home Visits

When permitted by the court, home visits may be approved as part of a family's visitation plan. These visits can help support routines and comfort, especially for young children or individuals with special needs.

Location Guidelines

All visit locations must follow the terms outlined in the court order or DCYF case plan. DC Visitation will not schedule visits at any location not approved or allowed by the referring agency or legal documentation. We work closely with families to identify approved locations that are safe, appropriate, and meet the emotional needs of those involved.
